Lance
Natasha Berardi (Lance's owner), thanks everyone who contacted her with and really appreciates your compassion and kindness. She recently visited HareHill Hounds to get a "puppy fix" and spend time with the Lance X Josie litter. With Lance gone, this litter will be a large part of his legacy. Many puppy photos (like hundreds of them) are posted in our gallery.

Background
Lance was at a dog show in Freehold, NJ on Saturday, May 24, 2008. Monmouth County Kennel Club was the host club for Saturday's show. Friday's show was hosted by the Staten Island Kennel Club.
Lance's handler (Joe) brought Lance back to his crate after being shown. After securing Lance in his crate (in the van in the parking lot), Joe went to the men's room and then got in line at a concession stand to buy a water bowl for Lance. A total of 10-15 minutes had passed when someone came running up to Joe yelling that Lance had been hit by a car. This all happened around 9:00 AM.
Joe ran to the dog, picked him up and got in the car with the man in charge of the show. They rushed to the vet where Lance died. When Joe got back to his van later in the morning he saw that the crate door was wide open.
There are very strong indications that someone let Lance out of his crate. The police have spoken with Natasha (Lance's owner) and conducted preliminary investigation. But the bottom line is that unless someone at the show witnessed something, we are at a total dead end.
Perhaps it was malicious or maybe it was just some unknowing spectator that wanted to pet the pretty dog. This just reminds us how quickly something like this can happen. One minute your beloved dog is here and in an instant he is gone.
Unfortunately no one has yet come forward as a witness.
Lance
Lance spent several weeks at our house in March when he was being bred to our girl, Josie. He was not an escape artist. He never even bolted from a crate. His temperament is rock solid and would not be spooked very easily.
Any information you can provide would be helpful.
