HareHill's Up The Ante - "Chip"

Necropsy Findings

Our vet performed a necropsy on Chip. Even though he was on heavy duty antibiotics, they suspect that he had such a bad bacterial infection going on in his intestines that it caused the bile to back up into the gall bladder - causing it to burst. The gall bladder burst was the main cause of the peritonitis. His intestines were also all adhered together. The original surgery site healed properly which indicates that it hadn't leaked. The vet removed over a gallon of liquid from his abdomen (peritonitis filled with bacteria). The antibiotics he was on were the kind normally prescribed for this type of bacterial infection. But obviously the bacteria won.

On one hand it makes us feel better that we did the right thing. But on the other, Chip was most likely in intense pain much longer than we knew. We really wish these dogs could talk!

Chip as we remember him (happy and healthy)
