HareHill's Up The Ante - "Chip"

Chip in a garden at 4 months

05/01/08 - 03/19/09

Chip was a sweet, happy dog. He always had a smile on his face. When all the other dogs would come racing in the door, Chip would always stop to give us some kisses. When you'd walk by the dogs in their crates, his would be the one with the tail going thump-thump-thump.

Our dogs picked up something during the 2009 IKC shows in Chicago that caused vomiting and diarrhea. All of our dogs got sick. But Chip seemed to be the worse. The illness caused his intestine to telescope upon itself (a condition called intussusception) causing a blockage. Five feet of his intestine were removed about one week following shows. He seemed to be getting better, but the week after his surgery he took a turn for the worse and developed Peritonitis.

After consulting with our vet and a specialist - more surgery would only give him a 5-10% survival rate. And if he survived, he would most likely have ongoing GI problems. We made the difficult decision to end his suffering.

His brothers and sisters have gone on to win a national specialty, group placements, best in field, and other awards. Given the chance, we know he would have had his share of ribbons as well. And even if he didn't, that would have been OK. He is a loved member of our family all the same.

It's difficult to understand that in only 3 weeks, he went from being healthy to leaving this world. He had the kindest soul.

We miss you Mr. Chip.
You will always be in our thoughts.
