Our Breeding Philosophy
We breed quality litters through thoughtful research and working with other breeders. We attempt find the best possible match that will make a positive contribution to the Breed.
While we do show, we don't breed solely for that purpose. The Ibizan Hound gene pool in the U.S. is small. Our responsibility as a breeder is to the health and improvement of the Breed, not to win ribbons.
Health Testing
We routinely health test all our dogs and openly share the results. It is in the best interest of our breed's health. The following tests are performed on all dogs PRIOR to any breeding:
The results of these tests are submitted to the OFA database for online public viewing.
Quality vs. Quantity
We will not use immature dogs for breeding. Certain health tests cannot be administered until a dog reaches 2 years of age. We also believe it is better to wait and observe the dog maturing, both in conformation and temperament. This allows us to make the best determination if a dog should be used in a future breeding.
A Loving Home
In planning a litter, we also take into consideration the homes where our puppies will live. A loving home is just as important as anything else. Litters are usually spoken for long before the puppies are born.
