About HareHill Hounds

We are located in rural southeastern Wisconsin near the towns of Burlington and Lake Geneva where we live with our Ibizan Hounds and Basenjis.

Our hounds have it made!

Our hounds are part of our family and live in the house with us. The kennels (in our finished, walk-out basement) are great for when we are away at work.

Showing and Breeding

Wendy showed Basenjis in conformation for many years and collected plenty of Reserve ribbons. She switched to Ibizan Hounds in 1999 when she purchased Bunny, who became her first champion.

We have bred Bunny twice. Her first litter produced four champions out of of five pups. Zipper (who is from that litter) won her first Best In Show in May 2008. HareHill can now brag that we are breeders of Best in Show Ibizan Hounds.

The kids from the second litter are working on their championships. Josie (also from Bunny's first litter) whelped her first litter on May 1, 2008. Josie lives with us.

Kurt is no stranger to dog shows, growing up with parents who showed Skye and Dandie Dinmont terriers. His "project" is to finish Catdog, the only one from Bunny's first litter who has yet to be shown.

Supporting The Breed

We are active members of IHCUS, the Ibizan Hound Club of the United States. Kurt is treasurer and webmaster and Wendy is Club Secretary and particpates on several committees. Wendy is a long-time member of BCOA, the Basenji Club of America. We are both member of BCOSW, the Basenji Club of Southeastern Wisconsin. Wendy served as president and board member for several years.

Beezerfest

The Ibizan Hound in the U.S. is a rare breed. Large entries at dog shows are also rare. Where more popular breeds will draw 100+ entries, a large entry for Ibizans would be over 20.

In 2006 we teamed up with two other Ibizan owners and created Beezerfest, a supported entry held each year in March during the Louisville show cluster. The four day Louisville shows draw large entries in all breeds. It's central location is ideal to draw exhibitors from the east and west coasts. We have even had guests from Europe come to the shows. Each Beezerfest year has drawn around 90 entries (20+ per day). It's a lot of work. But it's also fun.

Fun facts about HareHill

HareHill is a registered name with the AKC. The name is in honor of Bunny (the hare) and also because we live on a hill. It has a nice ring to it.
